peer support services

canerowsteamsept2017BEST

Based at Sound Minds, Canerows was founded by mental health service users to improve mental health care, particularly for people from BME backgrounds.

The Ward Visiting service provides weekly visits to local mental health wards, offering support to in patients and consulting with them about ways that the experience of being in hospital could be improved.

After talks with the NHS, in 2013 a post discharge peer support service was piloted with Ward 2 at Springfield hospital, providing additional support to people for six weeks after they leave hospital.

Ward Visitors and Canerows Peer Workers are themselves people who have experience of being in hospital and who have been through our accredited training for the role.

Canerows also runs regular consultation meetings and social and arts events and meets with local providers.

Anyone interested in training to become a Ward Visitor should contact Mia Morris.

We can provide training and support to organisations who want to adopt our Peer Support model. Call to discuss your needs.
