London Creativity and Wellbeing Week happened for the first time in 2012. The 2016 week saw over 150 events with nearly 25,000 participants right across London. The week has now become a crucial feature in the capital's cultural calender. There is a growing body of evidence indicating the profound effect engagement in the arts and creativity can have on health and wellbeing. The arts bring us alive, nourish our curiosity, help us learn – they change the places in which we are treated and make them places we might want to be, they can improve the relationship between clinician and patient, and they give us the courage to face our own frailties and strengths.
Canerows was founded by mental health service users from Sound Minds with the aim of improving mental health care, particularly for people from BME backgrounds. The Ward Visiting service provides weekly visits to local mental health wards, offering support to in patients and consulting with them about ways that the experience of being in hospital could be improved. Canerows also provides a post discharge peer support service from Ward 2 at Springfield hospital, with additional support to people for six weeks after they leave hospital. Mama Lows Kitchen is a one day drop in run by Canerows on a Friday. It is open to all people recovering from mental health issues that live in Wandsworth, and it is free to attend. Ward Visitors and Canerows Peer Workers are themselves people who have experience of being in hospital and who have been through our accredited training for the role. We can provide training and support to organisations who want to adopt our Peer Support model. Call to discuss your needs.
OCN London is a national not-for-profit organisation that creates and awards qualifications. We work in partnership with educators, training providers, charities and employers to help transform people’s lives through learning. Our mission is to help create a fairer society where everyone, whatever their educational background, has an opportunity to benefit from learning, realise their potential and fulfil their goals. We have been helping organisations to develop and validate their education and training provision for over 25 years. Our focus is on providing opportunities for people - many of them ‘second chance’ learners who have missed out on traditional education - to progress and achieve their goals. This is at the heart of our mission. We understand the power of learning to transform organisations, empower communities and help people to grow. We are committed to ethical business practices, transparency and integrity. We always put the needs of learners at the heart of our service.
Canerows is a group of service users comitted to improving the experiences of people from BaME backgrounds in the mentwal health system. Canerows has developed a Ward Visiting Scheme, a network of comunity support and holds regular consultation and information sessions. Canerows also runs regular consultation meetings and social and arts events and meets with local providers. Anyone interested in training to become a Ward Visitor should contact Rima Williams or Joanna Oleszczynska at Sound Minds.
